Visual Design Elements and Principles

The Apple Corer Peeler Slicer, also known as the APCS, combines a variety of physical properties that result in a minimalistic, mechanical, yet organic, appearance. This organic aspect of the ACPS’s appearance is emphasized by the utter lack of straight lines. All of the ACPS’s lines and features appear curved or rounded to avoid giving the ACPS a rigid shape.
The shape of the ACPS, while organic, also appears mechanical. It is clear that the ACPS is designed merely to serve a mechanical task, as the spiral gear turns by a hand cranked motion. It’s mechanical appearance is further highlighted through the clear minimalistic use of metal. This gives the ACPS a scrap like or repurposed quality.
The color scheme of the ACPS emphasizes parts the move and cut. This is done by giving a silver color to parts that serve a mechanical or moving parts, while stationary parts, mostly the body, receive a bold, red color. Furthermore, all parts of the ACPS have a glossy, reflective appearance. This glossiness, combined with the visual contrast between silver and red, helps the ACPS to “pop”, and appear shiny, new, and consumer oriented.
Finally, the ACPS has a consistent, smooth texture. This has two functions. First off, the smooth texture compliments the glossy appearance of the ACPS. This is because a smooth texture is often assumed with a glossy hue. Additionally, the smooth texture of the ACPS makes it seem more user friendly and chic, as opposed to rigid, rough, and difficult to use.
In summation, the ACPS brings together a variety of unique attributes to create a, simple, organic, user friendly device with a clear and basic function.
